Who Is A Genius?

A writer once arrived at a monastery to write a biography of the Master. “People say you are a genius. Are you?” the writer asked him during an interview. You might say so, said the Master none very modestly.

“And what makes a person a genius?” asked the writer.

“The ability to recognize,” answered the Master.

“Recognize what?” asked the writer once again.

“The ability to recognize a butterfly in the caterpillar, an eagle in an egg, the saint in a selfish human being, and... a child in you.”

QUESTION

1. What did the writer understand what the Master explained?

ANSWERS

1. The Master meant to say that a genius is someone who can spot the underutilized or hidden potential

that needs to be tapped in a person. The extraordinary in ordinary can only be seen by a genius.

Turn Your Enemy Into A Friend

The upper house of Congress was a battleground of heated arguments for Senators Benjamin and Seward. Once, as usual, Senator Benjamin was engaged in a personal attack on Seward.

It lasted for a considerable time. Then, Benjamin resumed his seat, angry and bitter, to await a counter-attack. But what he heard just left him amazed and a little while later, Seward was seen joking with his colleagues, puffing contently on the cigar given by Benjamin.

QUESTIONS

1. What did Seward say as a counter-attack?

2. What is the implication of this story?

ANSWERS

1. Senator Seward sauntered up to his opponent and in his most disarming manner said, “Benjamin, give me a cigar. When your speech has been printed, send me two copies.”

2. Forgiveness can even turn the bitterest enemies into friends.

Be Dedicated

A very shrewd and successful businessman was on his deathbed. The end was very near. As expected, his family had gathered around him.

The dying man asked if his elder son was present there. Somebody said yes. Then he went on to inquire about his next son and again got a positive response.

Later, he called out to find out whether all other children were there. For which too, he got a positive answer. All the family members were present at his bedside. Suddenly, he became very angry and almost shouted.

QUESTIONS

1. What do you think the businessman shouted for?

2. What is the implication of this story?

ANSWERS

1. The businessman yelled at everyone present there, “If all of you are up here, who the hell is taking care of the shop down below?”

2. The man was really a businessman until his death. Such total dedication to his business alone made him a
successful businessman and he could amass fabulous wealth.

Treat Everyone with respect

There was once a very renowned guru who sat meditating in his Himalayan cave. People from far and near would come visiting him with different problems.

Once, he opened his eyes to discover an unexpected visitor sitting before him, the chairman of a well-known company.

“What is it that you seek?” asked the surprised guru.

The chairman recounted a tale of woe. At one time, his factory was making huge profits and the employees were very cooperative.

Unfortunately, of late, labor problems emerged and the financial position of the factory deteriorated, incurring heavy losses.

Now, this is what the chairman wanted to know — “Is it because of some mistake of ours that the factory has been reduced to this state?”

“Yes,” said the guru, “a mistake of ignorance.”

“And what mistake might that be?”

“One of the employees in your factory is an avatar of God in disguise and you are
ignorant of this.after saying that the guru closed his eyes and returned to his meditation.

The chairman’s heart beat fast at the thought that God Himself had returned to earth and was right there in his factory.

How was it that he had failed to recognize Him? And who could it be? It could be anybody. It might be the manager, assistant manager, or one of the staff.

All of them had many defects. But then, the guru said He was in disguise. Could those defects be one of His disguises? Come to think of it, everyone in the factory had defects. And one of them had to be the Messiah!

Back in the factory, he assembled all his employees and told them the discussion that he had had with the guru and informed them that one of them should be God.

They looked at each other in disbelief. God? Here?

Incredible! But He was supposed to be here in disguise. So maybe... What if it were so?

One thing was certain. If God was there in disguise, it was unlikely that they would recognize Him. So they took to treating each other with respect and consideration. “You never know,” they said to themselves when they dealt with one another, “maybe He is the one.”

After this, there was no bickering among the employees. The atmosphere in the factory had completely changed. Everyone started working with sincerity and dedication, loving and respecting each other. Production improved and profits increased.
